5 Spring Cleaning Tips

It’s spring already and I can’t believe how fast it’s come around! Once the weather starts to warm up I like to come out of hibernation, breath in the fresh spring air and get the house spick and span for summer months ahead.

As soon as it hits March I think that having a good spring clean is essential, you want to get your home prepared for the summer time and get rid of any signs of winter. So me being me, thought I’d write a post sharing my 10 Spring Cleaning Tips just in case you need a bit of advice when it comes to spring cleaning…

Are you prepared?
Okay so before you start doing any cleaning you must be prepared! Have you got everything your going to need in order to complete the job? Make sure you completely stocked up, if you’ve got a bad memory (like me) go around the house room by room and make a note of what products you’ll need.

Supplies
You’re going to need a lot of supplies and if you haven’t had a thorough clean since last spring then you more than likely going to have ran out of most of your cleaning products. How are your tools looking? You need to ensure everything is in working order, give everything a good inspection and replace any tools that have had their day!

You’ll need an all purpose cleaner that's for sure that will save you splashing out on all the different types of cleaners for each individual surface. Anything that's requires specialised cleaner such as silver polish or wood oil will need to be cleaned separately - don’t use just any old cleaner if you’re not 100% sure as it may get damaged.

Going Green
This year I've decided I want to try and reduce my carbon footprint - you know, try and be a little greener! With a bit of research I've actually discovered uses for household items such as baking soda and vinegar they cost so much less than other cleaning supplies.

Use microfibre cloths instead of using paper towels and inexpensive white clothes can be used for just about anything. Try and get hold of a mop with a refillable head this can be simply machine washed.

De - Clutter
Before you can clean thoroughly, you will have to have a good clean out get rid of anything that is making the place look untidy. Be ruthless, anything that you haven’t used in the past 12-18 months must go!

When I say get rid I don’t mean throw away, divide things into two piles one for selling and the other for donating, there are plenty of charity shops out there which would be more than happy to accept your unwanted goods providing they are still of good use. You should also plan doing a car boot - a great way to earn some extra cash to put towards a summer holiday perhaps?

Get Help
Spring cleaning can actually be whole lot of fun when you get everyone involved! Get your house mates involved the more people that chip in the quicker and more effective it will be. If you have kids get them involved too, give them the smaller jobs like dusting and polishing, stick on some music and have a blast!

Short Cuts
Everyone wants a few short cuts to make life easier right? There are some rooms that are going to need more TLC than others, guest bedrooms and bathrooms and offices that are generally kept tidy anyway can be crossed off the list.

The main rooms you need to concentrate on here are the kitchen living room, bedrooms and family bathroom. Concentrate on the high traffic areas first once you've cleaned the messiest areas the rest may not look so bad!
